I've been using this for 'on the road' research to scan old newspapers, documents in binders, and archived items that cannot be placed on a copier. Since using the wand scanner, even if I could copy something, I'd use this instead. I was able to get excellent clarity even from yellowed 70-year-old newspapers, and I can scan my own documents such as credit card bills for my computer files.
Place it snug against the item you want scanned, move it with an even speed over the area, and it's done. It saves in .jpg (I haven't figured out how to do .pdf, but no matter - I use the 'save as' function on my computer and convert them). It's a drag-and-drop operation for me on a Macintosh. (Scan > plug into computer USB > drag and drop to folder)
I used a suggestion I located elsewhere when I was looking for reviews of the wand (which were excellent, including at cnet dot com): When scanning anything bound, such as a book, or a newspaper, swipe from side to side, not top down. You don't have to push on the book or paper to try to make it flat - there are no high spots to accommodate side to side.
It scans black and white as well as color. (I recall seeing somewhere that it's black and white only, but I got both.)
The case (which I recommend) is just 11 by 2.5 by 2.75. I just measured it.
Summary: Love it, works better than I expected, easier to use than expected, and results are better than I expected. Super accessory/tool.

Love this little scanner. I have a large scanner/copier/printer combo but wanted something to take with me when visiting family so I could scan photos and other items for my genealogy research. First photo I scanned came out great, just follow the instructions and scan slowly across the photo. Also scanned a recipe from a magazine and it came out perfect. I was nervous after reading some of the reviews but am so happy I decided to try it!
