5Superfast scanner
By jlplatt
I regularly need to scan large batches of documents and this scanner tears through them in no time. Really handy that it scans them all into one PDF that's easily searchable and ready to go. This is a real time saver over my last flat bed scanner.

It was easy to set up and a breeze to get going. Just hit the big green button and it takes care of the rest. The included programs are sophisticated but easy enough for basic scanning situations.

5No nonsense, super fast scanner
By G. Platt
The scanner was very easy to set up, with a straightforward installation program. The computer recognized it immediately. It has a long foldout tray for catching paper, but when not in use, takes up very little space on my desk. The included Paperport software seems very full-featured and can be used for a variety of situations. OCR text recognition works fairly quickly on large documents and is quite reliable. The text translation was quite good.

While it obviously takes longer to scan the higher you set the quality setting and color depth, for standard day to day document scanning it's blazing fast. Even for color scans, it's far faster than the flat-bed scanner on my all-in-one printer. In Black & White mode, it churns through pages before you can blink. There didn't appear to be any loss of speed when scanning in duplex mode either, capturing both sides of the page at once- very handy!

5Fast Legal Scanner
By bella
The recreation community center has many programs and classes that are available to people of all ages. In order to advertise and to file many receipts, manage budgets, fliers, safety codes, and other programs to help run the facility we needed a scanner. This scanner has been very useful and helpful in the up-keep with the important files in my office.

This scanner came with a start-up CD, a USB cable, and a start-up guide. It also is easy to plug in. The scanner has several settings that makes PDF conversion very easy. It scans up to 75 pages per minute which was very helpful in getting our reports out by immediate deadlines. It also was very convenient that the scanner has duplex scanning, meaning that it scans both sides of documents.I recommend this scanner to any office.

2Quirky Software Would not Recommend
By Jaycee
After using a Fujitsu Scansnap 1200S I had to upgrade to a scanner that holds more in the feeder. I am regretting not sticking with Fujitsu. I read some of the reviews on the internet for the HP Scanjet 5000 and more than one person had a problem with the software. I thought they were just being picky. But after 5 calls to HP Support, it was a MAJOR HASSLE getting this software to be recognized by my computer. I run Windows 7. Even after tech support got it up an running the software was quirky and necessitated calls to HP. One good thing, HP has very friendly and helpful support, not a consolation for crappy software. The scanner is fast and does the job. The problem is I just got a Windows 8 laptop and guess what? Yes, the laptop and the scanner aren't communicating. Hmmm, not a coincidence. Do yourself a big favor, get the Fujitsu. The software is user friendly and the scanner is excellent.

5Great Scanner, ordering a second one!
By Maxie
I purchased this scanner for my small business over the summer and am now ordering a second one, as my partner nicked it and won't give it back! It is so easy to use. The software is straightforward and intuitive, even if you don't use it often. Hit the limit on the duty cycle a couple of times, but we were scanning a backlog of documents, so that was expected. We have a flatbed scanner on our Xerox multi-function machines, but we no longer use them for scanning. Hope to add one for every desk.

5Best Scanner for shear easy of use
By Grady Stroud
In about 10 minutes after getting the scanner out of the box I was working on images I scanned. The panel only has 9 buttons and a very easy display to understand.

The only small draw back I found was that the scan area was not clearly marked for where you put diffrent size paper. I have had it for about a year and I never have to worry about moving it or re-configuring it for my new computer.

This product is just plain simple quality.

I bought this unit mainly to duplicate some 1960's slides though I thought the negatives and picture duplication was a plus but when I used it the picture and negative dupliction were actually , on a scale of 1-10 , a (7) for negatives and a (8) for pictures but the slides were about a (4) ! The slides on bright pictures were blurry and the darker pictures had blocks of squares on shadow lines instead of nice smooth lines ! I ended up sending it back , having 100's of slides to do and didn't want to do again if I find a good quality one !

4Worth the Money
By Alan
I got this Pacific Image ImageBox about a week ago and started scanning old negatives. First lets be clear this is not a scanner but more or less a camera which copies your images.
I had no problem loading the software that came with the Imagebox. It is a very basic no frills program. I connected the Imagebox with the USB line to my computer so I could see the images being done. Once I load the the negative in the box it takes a few seconds for it to adjust the lighting of the negative then I save the image. I can zip through 4 negatives in a manner of minutes. I have done 600 negatives so far and the speed of the Imagebox is faster than what I had thought it would be. It takes more time to load the strip of negatives by far.
Like I stated this is not a scanner but still I am happy with the quality of the jpeg I get. I put my setting at Best quality. I have not used the picture adjustment part of the program because I use Photoshop to process and adjust any image. I scanned a negative of my little girl when she was a baby, processed it and made a 8"x10" picture of it. I was happy with it and so was my wife.
I have not tried any slides yet so I can not tell you anything about this part.

4Good for the price, and for non-professionals.

Please note I used a Mac, so your experiences may differ if you're on a PC.

There's a lot of slide to digital products out there that range from $50 to $250, and the ImageBox is a nice middle ground. It is a good product for any amateur seeking to look back at their old slides, and the image quality is good with a few flaws.

- The ImageBox itself (the scanner) is light, a bit bulky, and soundless. It doesn't make any loud scanning sounds, only requires one USB slot. The slide holder is nice and holds up to 4 slides, but sadly you must manually insert them and insert the slide holder each time so it can be time consuming and annoying if you're doing hundreds of slides.

- The software is terrible, and the worst part is you have to use the software in order to use the ImageBox. Maybe it's because I am on a Mac, but the software sometimes would not even open. Sometimes it would crash and exit. Sometimes the preview window would just go black and I would have to restart the software. It was a really pain to just rotate an image, and the color correction features were unrealistic. I wish they would update the software because it was the biggest downside of this product.

- The image quality is good, it's vibrant, crisp (if the photograph is), good contrast, and good resolution. As with any slides they have a few scratches, dust, and speckle on the slides that will scan it with the image. The color on some images is a bit washed out and has a classic "vintage" look. I wouldn't recommend the software for correcting these problems, it's too time consuming and inaccurate. You really need to have knowledge of Photoshop in order to correct a lot of the images and retouch them. Color correction goes a huge way on Photoshop and it makes a lot of the photographs I had from the 1950s look like they were taken yesterday.

Overall it's a good product, but it's a product that really requires you to have some image editing software too, or know someone who can correct the images for you. It's great for the home user trying to scan in their parent's or grandparent's old slides, but time consuming if you are going through a hundred or more. Keep in mind the scan really can only be as good as the photograph and slide itself is, so you can not expect wonders. They won't be as high quality as photographs are nowadays.
