Epson Perfection V350 Photo Scanner (B11B185011) Review
For advanced amateur photographers, the Epson Perfection V350 Photo boasts an impressive 4800 x 9600 dpi maximum hardware resolution for reproducing and enlarging images with incredible detail and accuracy. This resolution matches that used by many professionals when scanning film and allows for large prints to be made without the loss of image quality. In addition, the Perfection V350 Photo features a unique Automatic Film Loader (AFL) built into the top of the scanner lid for effortless film scanning of 35mm film strips, up to six frames at a time. If your closets are filled with shoeboxes full of negatives, you will find the AFL an invaluable tool for scanning large quantities of negative strips. Users can also scan film with a traditional film holder and the built-in transparency adapter.
The Perfection V350 also introduces a new feature - Digital Dust Correction technology. It is a more intelligent tool that automatically detects and removes unwanted dust particles from scans while maintaining the integrity of the original image. Some dust removal technologies apply detection to the whole image, which can mistakenly remove important details that resemble dust or debris. Epson's solution separates an image into different areas -- those with many image elements and those with few image elements -- and works to remove defects only in the clearer areas. In this manner, dust is removed from only those areas where it would be most visible, minimizing the risk that real image content would erroneously be deleted. This patent-pending technology is only available for Epson scanners. USB 2.0 Connector (1.1 backward compatible) Works with both PC and Macintosh computers

Cannot be beaten for the price...
By M. CRANFIELD
I bought this recently - basically to scan all the family photos from about 25 years back... The results are beyond my wildest expectations... I even managed to scan over 1000 slides we had with excellent results... A bit slow sure but the results are great. The last scanner I used many years back was what made me choose a cheaper model... But I am amazed at the results...
Maybe I should have got the V700 or V750??
Cons... a bit slow and u can only scan 2 slides at once.. but the rest is great!!!

Works Very Well

The Epson V350 scanner works very well indeed! I got this mostly so that I could scan 35mm negatives and slides. It has a nifty feature where you feed up to six negatives into a feeder on the cover and hit the auto scan mode and it does everything automatically! After a few minutes, your images appear in "My Pictures" (on PCs -- "Pictures" on Macs). For slides there is a holder for two that snaps into the scanner bed and again, in auto mode, it locates them and in a few minutes, you have them. I just got this thing yesterday and it just couldn't be easier. In the full auto mode, it recognizes anything that you want to scan. There is a professional mode where you can fine tune the scans. Naturally it scans photos at incredible resolution in the profession mode. You can access the professonal mode to select increased resolution for scanning negatives and slide, as well as photos. The included software is easy to follow and after a bit of experimenting, you're on your way. You can remove dust and enhance the image and all automatically. For what it does, it's reasonable price. It wasn't all that many years ago when something like this was the thing of dreams. Yet another excellent product from Epson.

Not what I hoped for, but could work well for you.

For a general scanner this is quite a good machine and it's plug-and-play for a Mac. It also seems to be a very good value so I would recommend it highly for someone who needs to do occassional film strip scanning or just general scanning.
However, I bought this primarily for film-strip scanning and it hasn't met my needs. It may meet yours.
I have a huge inventory of 35mm film accumulated over 40 years of shooting. I previously bought a high-end negatve scanner in order to digitize some of this inventory. The process got very bogged down because my negatives are separated from the prints and it's very difficult to judge which of the negatives I want to scan (like most photographers, only about 1 in 15 is worth saving). Scanning them all is too time-consuming and consumes huge amounts of disk space. I was therefore searching for a quick and easy way to do quick, low-res scans and make index scans from which I could select the ones I wanted to run through the high-res scanner.
This Canon scanner attracted me as a possible solution because of the capability of auto-loading and scanning film strips. It hasn't really been a good solution as it's quite slow. Also the film feeder is flimsy and quite fussy (it won't take a film strip with a tag on it, for example, and the original Kodak processing tag is on all of these rolls).
